Functional Flow for Modern Yoga Practitioners
with Jason Crandell
8th & 9th July
Whole Body Strength and Mobility
Saturday 8th July: 10.30am-1.00pm
£50 or £180 for full weekend
This is the big, complete practice that addresses your whole body, makes you feel infinitely better, and teaches you modern, functional techniques that will help your shoulders, hips, and core work better. You will emphasize the following:
– A comprehensive approach to improving strength and mobility in your shoulders. We’ll categorize every movement that the shoulders make so that you know you’re working in a complete and balanced way.
– A comprehensive approach to improving strength and mobility in your hips. We’ll categorize every movement that the hips make—and, of course, you’ll do all of them in a balanced, functional way.
– A comprehensive approach to improving strength and mobility in your spine. Yes, you, guessed it: we’ll categorize everything that your spine does and we’ll do all of them.
The Classics, Updated
Saturday 8th July: 2.30-5.00pm
£50 or £180 for full weekend
Are you still trying to “square your hips” in Warrior 1, get your hips between “two panes of glass,” in Warrior 2, and failing to use your Glutes in your backbends? Well, here is the deal: Everything needs the occasional update, even the Classics. This workshop will go through the major technique updates that make many classic yoga postures more functional, current, and beneficial for your body. Among other things, you will update the following:
– A complete system of vinyasa that doesn’t over-rely on chaturanga and up-dog. But, rather, 5 other fluid patterns of movement that build a better balance of strength and mobility.
– A technically sound, updated approach to using your Glutes (and those other, frequently under-utilized bits) in your Backbends and standing postures. If you’re not overtly strengthening the back of your body in backbends, you’re leaving A LOT of functionality off the table.
– A totally different approach to aligning your stride and pelvis in Warrior 1 (and similar postures)
– A totally different approach to aligning your stride and pelvis in Warrior 2 (and similar postures)
– An approach to forward bending and hip-opening that creates greater active range of motion. This way, you might actually be able to use some of that flexibility you’re developing in yoga class in the normal world.
