A Six-Day Ashtanga Immersion
with Kino MacGregor & Tim Feldmann
27th July – 1st August, 2027
£690

Join Kino and Tim Feldmann for six days of practice, study and exploration of Ashtanga Yoga at Mission.

Built around the traditional rhythm of daily Mysore practice, this immersion offers the opportunity to go deeper into Ashtanga — not simply by advancing the physical practice, but by developing a more intelligent, sustainable and complete understanding of the method.

Each morning begins with Mysore practice under Kino and Tim’s guidance. Across the week, afternoon workshops move through some of the essential dimensions of Ashtanga: prāṇāyāma and bandha, backbending, transitions and floating, longevity and adaptation, deep hip mobility and the subtle body.

The week culminates in a traditional Led Primary Series and conference on Sunday.

This is an immersion in Ashtanga as a living practice: rigorous but adaptable, rooted in tradition while responsive to the individual, and encompassing far more than āsana alone. Ideally, students come to the immersion but individual bookings for Mysore, the workshops and full primary is also possible.

Prāṇāyāma, Bandha & the Inner Practice

Tuesday July 27th: 11.00am-2.00pm
£80 or
£690 for full immersion

Move beyond āsana and explore the internal techniques that give Ashtanga its depth.

We will work with foundational prāṇāyāma, the practical application of bandha, breath awareness and concentration, exploring how these elements support both the physical and contemplative dimensions of practice.

Rather than treating breath, bandha and meditation as separate techniques, Kino and Tim will explore how they work together to create stability, sensitivity and a more refined awareness of the inner body.

Expect a combination of practice, explanation and time to experience how these subtle techniques can transform the way you move, breathe and focus on the mat.

Insights Into Backbending

Wednesday July 28th: 11.00am-2.00pm
£80 or
£690 for full immersion

Backbending asks for much more than a flexible spine.

Working with key backbends from the Ashtanga sequences, we will break down the anatomical, energetic and subtle aspects of spinal extension and explore how the legs, pelvis, spine, shoulders and breath coordinate to create a backbend that feels both strong and spacious.

We will work with passive and assisted stretching alongside active flexibility, dynamic movement and strength-based drills, with particular attention to the posterior chain and its role in supporting deeper spinal extension.

The emphasis is on distributing the backbend throughout the body rather than concentrating movement in the areas that are already most flexible, creating a methodical pathway towards greater mobility, strength and confidence.

Jumping, Walking, Rolling & Floating

Transitions in Practice

Thursday July 29th: 11.00am-2.00pm
£80 or
£690 for full immersion

Transitions are where strength, coordination, breath and technique meet.

Rather than treating the spaces between postures as something to simply get through, we will slow them down and investigate how they actually work.

Explore jumping forward and back, stepping and walking transitions, rolling movements, lift-ups and the foundations of floating, breaking seemingly complex movements into progressive and accessible pieces.

We will look at how the hands connect to the ground, how the shoulders stabilise, how the core and bandhas organise the centre of the body and how breath coordinates momentum and control.

Different bodies require different strategies. The aim is not to master a trick, but to understand the mechanics well enough to develop these movements intelligently over time.

Expect drills, technique, strength work – and plenty of play.

Ashtanga for Life

Building a Sustainable Practice

Friday July 30th: 11.00am-2.00pm
£80 or
£690 for full immersion

A lifelong practice cannot remain exactly the same, because the practitioner does not remain the same.

Bodies change. Circumstances change. Injuries happen. Responsibilities grow. Energy fluctuates. And our relationship with practice naturally evolves.

This workshop explores how to preserve the intelligence and integrity of the Ashtanga method while adapting the practice to the reality of the individual.

We will look practically at modification, progression and sequencing: how to respond to injury, stiffness, limited mobility, changing strength and different stages of life; when to progress, when to consolidate, when to modify — and when doing less may actually serve the practice more.

The aim is to move beyond pursuing an external ideal of the postures and develop the discernment necessary to make Ashtanga a genuine lifelong companion.

Tradition gives us the structure. Practice teaches us how to inhabit it.

14:30 – Community Walk FREE

An opportunity to step away from the mat, spend time together and connect with Kino, Tim and the wider community.

Hips & Leg Behind Head

Saturday July 31st: 12.00-2.00pm
£55 or
£690 for full immersion

Leg-behind-the-head postures can appear impossibly complex from the outside. But the pathway towards them can be understood through a series of clear, progressive actions.

This workshop explores the foundations of deep hip flexion and external rotation required for Eka Pāda Śīrṣāsana, Dwi Pāda Śīrṣāsana and related movements, while paying particular attention to protecting the knees, lower back and neck.

We will work with hip mobility, hamstring flexibility, pelvic positioning and the strength of the core and upper back before exploring how to support the leg safely as it moves behind the head.

Preparations and modifications will be offered throughout. You absolutely do not need to be able to put your leg behind your head to attend.

The goal is not the final shape. It is understanding the pathway towards it – and learning to work intelligently at your own edge.

The Subtle Body

Yin & Meditation

Saturday July 31st: 3.00-5.00pm
£55 or
£690 for full immersion

After a week exploring the more dynamic dimensions of Ashtanga, we turn our attention inward.

Through Yin Yoga, breath awareness and meditation, we will explore what becomes perceptible when movement slows and habitual effort begins to settle.

Longer-held Yin postures create the ground for observing sensation, breath and changing states of the nervous system. From there, Kino and Tim will introduce the internal architecture of yoga, exploring the relationship between prāṇa, nāḍīs, bandha, attention and the central axis of the body.

Meditation brings these threads together, shifting the emphasis from doing a posture towards observing the experience of body and mind from within.

It is a deliberate counterpoint to the strength, flexibility and technical work of the week.

The physical practice may open the doorway. Yoga asks us to investigate what lies beyond it.

Led Primary & Conference

Sunday August 1st: 9.00am-12.00pm
£55 or
£690 for full immersion

Close the immersion by bringing everything back into the traditional rhythm of the Primary Series.

Move together through the counted practice, allowing the work of the week to settle into breath, movement and concentration.

Practice will be followed by conference with Kino and Tim, creating space for questions and conversation around technique, philosophy, the Ashtanga method and what it means to develop a sustainable practice over time.

12:00–13:00 – Group & Individual Photos

A final hour together — and an opportunity for group and individual photographs with Kino and Tim.

Who is This Immersion For?

This immersion is for practitioners who want to understand Ashtanga more deeply – physically, technically and philosophically.

You do not need an advanced physical practice. The week is designed to meet practitioners where they are, with modifications, progressions and different approaches explored throughout.

What matters is curiosity, a willingness to practise and an interest in looking beyond the external shapes of Ashtanga towards the intelligence of the method itself.
